FAQ
Welcome to the FAQ section of my site. Here you can find answers to questions that you may have regarding my art, commissions or this site. Choose which question you have below and click its title to display the content.
If you can not find a FAQ question and answer that provides you with the information you need for your inquiry, don't be shy about sending me a message via my contact form found here. Others may very well have the same question and contacting me not only helps me to clarify things for you, but also create a more comprehensive FAQ for others.
What commisssions do you offer?
Below is a listing of the various commissions types I offer. My skills span many mediums so don't hesitate to ask about items that may not be listed here. Generally I keep a list of reputable artists that I can refer you to in the event your request is not something I can with confidence complete based on lack of time or inexperience in the medium and/or subject matter.
Handmade Items
Note that each purchase is handmade to order! So please allow 4 to 7 days (depending on size of order) for items to be completed before they ship.
Orders are started once the payment method you choose clears properly.
All orders are processed securely via PayPal. You also have the option to use PayPal guest checkout if you don't have a PayPal account!
You can check and edit your cart at any time before you submit your purchase by clicking the 'Cart' button found in the main menu at the top of this site.
You will be notified and given tracking information once your order is completed. If you like, I can also send photos of the completed items before they are shipped out. Be sure to list the manner in which you would like me to contact you with previews in the special instructions section during checkout.
I currently only accept orders from within the U.S. If you are outside the U.S. and interested in ordering some of these items, please contact me with a request. I will look into shipping costs for your region and update checkout accordingly.
How do I commission you?
The first step is to contact me. You can do so via the form on my contact page here. If my current commission batch is filled you will be placed on my upcoming waiting list.
Below is a template that you can use when sending information regarding your commission. It does not need to be followed exactly. It is simply an example or reference to ensure all information needed for your commission is included.
Again, this section is a guideline. If you do not have an answer to certain sections of the information below (such as pose, deadline, etc.) simply don't include it. And naturally if you have additional important information that needs to be included that does not fit into those sections, be sure to add under it "other".
Commission Type
Drawing, ref sheet, icon, etc.? Line art, flat color or full color?
Commission Quantity
How many drawings, ref sheets, icons, etc.?
Content Type
Is this general audience? Is it an adult piece?
Commercial/Non-Commercial
Is this art for you or to be used for profit?
Characters
How many?
Character Reference(s)
Include visual or written text references for your character(s).
Poses
What sort of pose do you want your character(s) in?
Deadline
Is there a specific time frame in which you need or would like to have this piece done?
PayPal Address
The address you use to make PayPal payments. This is where I will send the invoice.
Other
Any and all important details you feel need to be included that do not fit into any other section previously listed.
What is the procedure for payment?
Right now I currently only accept payments through PayPal. I do not accept cash. I also do not allow partial or split (payments from separate people for the same commission) payments.
Payments must be rendered within 1 week of the invoice being sent and no work will be done on your commission until it has been paid in full. Keep this in mind when you use payment methods such as an e-check through PayPal as it can take quite a bit of time to clear. The "1 week" rule to render payment doesn't apply to the time it takes for this method to clear. It only delays when work begins.
I currently offer a limited amount of commission slots at a time and because of this it is important that customers pay as soon as possible so that I may start working on their piece. Customers have 1 week from the time an invoice is sent out to pay for their commission. After that, the invoice will be cancelled and the slot will be opened up to someone else.
What carriers do you use for shipping?
The carrier used depends on whether or not the item I'm shipping is custom or not. Any non-custom items bought from my shop are automatically shipped via USPS. If you like, you can contact me in advance and I can write up a custom invoice for you which will include shipping costs for the the carrier of your choice. Otherwise I will only allow a choice in carrier when you order a custom piece from me.
When you order a custom commission, you may choose between USPS, UPS or FedEx for the shipping carrier. This must be discussed while going over the details of the commission. Once all details of the commission have been sorted out and agreed upon, I will write up an invoice which will include fees for the carrier you have chosen. The fees for carrier will be itemized on your invoice as "shipping", "shipping costs", or "shipping &handling".
When will I recieve my order?
That's dependent on quite a number of factors. I take on 5 commissions at a time so yours will not be the only order I am working on. Also the complexity and details of the piece play a large role in how quickly I can get it completed.
Another factor to keep in mind is how quickly I recieve responses from you regarding details or previews. If it takes you a week each time to get back to my messages about your piece, that's an issue on your end, not mine. The best way to cut down on wait time is to make sure you provide me with any and all details about your art piece from the very beginning.
Unless there was a specific deadline agreed upon when you initially contacted me, I will not give a set deadline for completion. Be aware that "as soon as possible" is not a deadline. You need to give me a specific time frame and/or date that we can both mutally agree on ahead of time.
Can I post my finished commission _____?
Once I have finished a piece for you, you are free to post it where ever you like. You are allowed to use my art for non-commercial purposes (icons, banners, references, etc.) You are NOT allowed to use my art for commericial purposes (Ex: selling prints) unless it was part of the initial agreement.
You may not remove my watermark/signature from a piece for any reason. Including credit and link backs when reposting is not in any way required, though it is greatly appreciated should you choose to do so.
If you wish to use my art for any purpose other than reposting once it is completed, ask me before doing so.
How long do you keep commissions?
First off, I want to make it clear that I generally do not keep copies of commissions indefinitely. This applies to digital drawings, traditional drawings or photos of traditional pieces. Once in a great while I keep one or two pieces for each year that I think best represents my work done during that time period and that's it.
So how long do I keep commissioned pieces? Usually a year. A year is long enough that if the client needs another copy, something on the piece changed, different sizes and other alterations, a year is a reasonable time frame for all that. There is a slim chance that I may keep a piece beyond that time frame, but know that it's very unlikely.
Also keep in mind in the case of digital art pieces if you art interested in having the original sketch, I need to know this right away! I do not keep sketches for digital pieces after the sketch has been approved and I move on to working on the digital line art.
I never keep sketches for commissions or even my own personal art. If I kept sketches for every art piece I've ever done, I wouldn't have room for anything else in my home. I would very literally need a house just for my art!
*artist goals*
I never have an issue shipping out sketches for commissions; you just simply have to let me know when we are discussing the details of your commission so I can ship it out to you.
Can I draw Plague (or your other characters)?
I've never had a problem with people drawing my main character Plague or any of my other characters as long as appropriate credit is given to me as the original owner and creator of the character(s). It would be nice if you could send me a link when you're done as I would like to see the cool idea you came up with, but it's certainly not a requirement in any way.
Can I use _____ art piece of yours?
I may occasionally, with prior consent, allow art pieces that I have created for myself to be used by others. Contact me with specifics regarding which piece you would like to use, where, why and so forth.
I under no circumstances allow art that I have done as a commission to be used by anyone other than the purchaser. The buyer retains rights to any and all characters depicted, however I retain rights to the art itself. The purchaser therefore can not give permission to use anything other than their character designs, not my original art.
Other information & facts
Please do not try to whine or manipulate to attempt to get free art. You won't get any. This includes trying to get extra characters and work done on a commission. You get what you pay for, no more and no less. This is how I make my living and support my family. Please show a little respect.
If I choose to do free art for someone, I will generally make a public post about it with very specific guidelines. Gift art is something I feel like doing in my spare time and is not to be treated as a commission; meaning I will draw what I please and that's the end of it. It's free, so let's not get pushy people.
No Art Trades
On the rare occasions that I might be interested in an art trade I will approach you. Generally I am not interested in art trades as people have a way of flaking and suddenly it turns into a free art situation. As stated previously, I don't do free/gift art.
No Collaborative Art
I have tried this a few times with several different artists and they have all turned out to either be flakes or thieves. I have no interest in ever doing collaborative work with others.
Do Not Negotiate And/Or Manipulate
My prices are what they are. If you don't like it, please find another artist. Whining about it or trying to push deals is not only annoying, but disrespectful. Not to mention it guarantees that I will not work with you on any commission. I have no time or patience for clients that can not display common courtesy or common sense.
Only Serious Inquiries Please
I would also ask that you keep messages and emails limited to commission information and requests. I've had issues with my inboxes piling up and having to dig through tons a random messages to find the ones I actually need to complete commissions. Respect my time and that of the people waiting to get their art piece.
I am by no means discouraging any contact that is not commission related. I simply ask that you be mindful of frequency and also the fact that my response time will most likely be slower as I have other things that need to be attended to first. If you wish to chat or contact me more regularly on topics that are not commission related, I encourage you to do so via one of the social media sites I'm on. I currently have several listed on the front page of my site.
